Metrics details. Edwardsiella tarda uncommonly infects humans. The usual presentation is mild gastroenteritis, but systemic manifestations may occur. Lethal infections are rarely documented in patients with underlying disorders.
Aortic Dissection Presenting as Septic Shock: A Case Report and Literature Review
Fluid therapy and shock: an integrative literature review
Metrics details. Epidemiologic data have shown an increasing incidence and declining mortality rate in sepsis. However, confounding effects due to differences in disease classification might have contributed to these trends. To assess if a declining mortality over time could be supported by data derived from high-quality prospective studies, we performed a meta-analysis using data from randomised controlled trials RCTs on sepsis. The primary aim was to assess whether the mortality in sepsis trials has changed over time.
Metrics details. Over the last two decades, there have been vast improvements in sepsis-related outcomes, largely resulting from the widespread adoption of aggressive fluid resuscitation and infection control. With increased understanding of the pathophysiology of sepsis, novel diagnostics and resuscitative interventions are being discovered. In recent years, few diagnostic tests like lactate have engendered more attention and research in the sepsis arena. One such effort that has received focus is the role of lactate monitoring and whether measurements taken on initial presentation and serially can be used as targets of clinical end points including adequate resuscitation and in-hospital mortality [ 1 — 6 ].
Metrics details. Yersinia pseudotuberculosis infection can occur in an immunocompromised host. Although rare, bacteremia due to Y. The prognosis and therapeutic strategy, especially for immunocompetent patients with Y.
