During the first month or so, my students will be assessed on Kindergarten readiness. They will be accessed on what math and reading skills they have. This assessment will also be used to gauge whether a student is where they need to be, above where they need to be, or below where they need to be. As a teacher, this will help know which students will need extra help and which students may need more challenging work. SLO is one assessment I will be using in my classroom.

Diagnostic essays are essays that students, at the start of the college years are given to write. Although the name can be confusing and can cause fear, it is unlike typical research papers for universities. During a diagnostic essay writing period, the students are not allowed to research the topic and instead are given limited time to complete the essay on any specified topic. The limited time during the writing session does not help, as one is not given enough time to research a topic, and only write the basis of their knowledge. This essay mainly focuses on the ability of the student to create and prepare the essay with logic, practical and strategic thinking and with correct grammar, punctuation, and formatting rules.
A diagnostic essay aims at enlightening the strengths and weaknesses of the student to the teachers so that they can be assisted accordingly, and shape the curriculum altogether. They are mostly administered at the beginning of a term or a semester. For a diagnostic essay, the students are not expected to excel, but rather express the skills and knowledge they have currently, and how they can use them accordingly. This test follows the standard five-paragraph essay format; the introduction, three body paragraphs, and the conclusion.
